  • PT PLN Lombok GECC, Indonesia

The PLN Lombok GECC power plant, delivered in 2019, is powered by 13 Wärtsilä 34DF engines that can run on light fuel oil and liquified natural gas. When the gas supply is uncertain or prices are volatile, it is possible to switch from gas to liquid fuel, and vice versa, even during operation, while maintaining a high output.

Wärtsilä’s operation & maintenance agreement with Oman power provider extended following reliable and consistent performance

Feb 5, 2026, 12:00 by Wärtsilä Corporation

Technology group Wärtsilä has extended its operation and maintenance agreement with Musandam Power Company of Oman, an independent power producer (IPP), for another seven years. This extension builds on eight years of operation and maintenance support from Wärtsilä, during which the Musandam independent power plant has consistently delivered outstanding reliability and availability. The agreement extension order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q2 2025.

The plant operates with 15 Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines delivering a net power output of 120 MW. It is the main source of energy for the grid and provides electricity to the Musandam region of Oman.

“Because of Wärtsilä’s support, the plant has operated reliably for more than 99 percent of the time, providing uninterrupted power to the region. This proven support was a critical factor in extending our O&M agreement”, comments Mr. Murshid Al Yarubi, CEO, Musandam Power company.

Oman's goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, transitioning away from conventional energy sources to reduce environmental impact and ensure long-term sustainability. The Musandam plant is currently the only permanent power plant using natural gas as the primary fuel to meet the Musandam Governorate’s electricity demand.

“This plant is key to delivering the power needed to support a region experiencing rapid growth in tourism and commercial activity. A reliable power supply is essential and over the past eight years, we have consistently demonstrated our ability to provide it. As the energy transition gains momentum in the region, Wärtsilä’s proven expertise will bring significant value going forward,” says Alexandre Eykerman, Energy Business Director, Middle East at Wärtsilä Energy.

Wärtsilä’s operation and maintenance agreements represent a partnership, where both parties work towards shared goals for productivity and profitability. The partnership covers every aspect of the day-to-day operation and all related maintenance and administration tasks. It aims to maximise the productive lifetime of the installation and the return on investment, and is tailored to specific needs, including performance and lifecycle cost guarantees.
